Hot & Cold!

Hot & Cold!

teeth whitening Highland Park

Does the thought of biting into an ice cream cone or Popsicle make you cringe? When you sip on a hot cup of tea or a nice hot cup of coffee do you get shivers down your spine?

If you answered “yes” to either of the above, you are one of the many American’s that deals with sensitive teeth!  Just the thought of something ice cold or burning hot makes you cringe and you will do anything to avoid it. You are not alone!

The causes of sensitive teeth are many things but one of the main causes is due to receding gum lines. Basically the root of our tooth (one of the most sensitive areas) is covered by our gums.  Over time and due to things like brushing out teeth to hard, our gums wear down and expose the area of our tooth that’s full of nerves.  Ouch.  When anything extreme including hot or cold touches one of those exposed areas, the nerves trigger a reaction can be painful.

While it sounds like a frustrating situation to be in, and for some it might be, there are thing us here at Dallas Dental Concierge can help do to fix it.

In the meantime, there are also things that you can do at home to prevent gum recession and to make sure you are maintaining great oral healthcare.

  • Make sure you are using a soft bristled toothbrush. If the bristles are too harsh, you may be contributing to an expedited gum recession
  • Make sure you are brushing gently twice a day. Many people think that brushing their teeth harder will get rid of more plaque but that’s simply not the case.  Brush gently and your teeth (and gums) will thank you
  • Make sure you are flossing each day. Removing any excess bacteria and debris from your gums and teeth will help keep your mouth strong and healthy
