Preserve Your Smile: Exploring Tooth-Colored Fillings and Dental Health

What are Cavities?

Cavities, also known as tooth decay, are small holes or openings that form on the surface of teeth. They develop when plaque, a sticky film of bacteria, combines with sugars from food and drinks to produce acids that attack tooth enamel. If left untreated, cavities can deepen and affect the underlying layers of the tooth, leading to pain, infection, and even tooth loss. Regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups can help prevent cavities by removing plaque and identifying early signs of decay for timely treatment.

Tooth Colored Fillings

In the earlier years of dental care, cavities were filled with amalgam material, which is a mixture of metals, like mercury or silver. Now we know that amalgam fillings do not adhere very well with the teeth and that mercury can be hazardous to your general health.

Let Us Take Care Of Your Cavities

At Dallas Dental Concierge, Dr. Melisa Christian uses tooth-colored fillings made with composite resin to fill cavities and protect the tooth. Dr. Christian can also remove metal fillings and apply tooth-colored fillings for a safer and more attractive treatment of cavities.

The treatment area will be numbed with a local anesthetic to help you feel more comfortable. Stronger sedation methods may be considered for any anxieties or fears to help keep you relaxed during the treatment. Once you're prepared, the decayed enamel can be treated using a special drill that Dr. Christian will select based upon the location of the cavity and the amount of decay.

Once the enamel is removed and the tooth is cleaned, the cavity will be filled with a composite resin material and set with a special light. Dr. Christian will then polish the filling so it matches your other teeth.
